This policy explains what personal information the affutageoutaouais.com website collects, why, how long it is kept and how to exercise your rights. The site is run by Affûtage Outaouais, 97 Chemin Gauthier, L’Ange-Gardien, Quebec J8L 4C3.
In short
- Audience statistics (Google Analytics 4) are off by default. They are turned on only if you click “Accept” in the banner.
- The statistics are anonymous and only tell us which pages are useful. No advertising, no ad profiling.
- The sharpening request form is used only to reply to you and do the work. It is protected against bots by Cloudflare Turnstile.
- We do not sell your information.
- You can withdraw your consent at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page.
Sharpening request form
When you fill out the form on the Contact us page, we receive: your name, your phone number and/or email, the description of the items to sharpen, your message and photos (optional, up to 3) and, if you answer, how you heard about us.
This information is used only to reply to your request and do the work. The request is sent by email to Affûtage Outaouais (a Gmail inbox run by Google LLC), and a copy is kept in the site’s private admin area, which is not public. Photos are stored on the site’s server under a file name that can’t be guessed and are not published on the site.
To block abuse, an encrypted fingerprint of your IP address is kept for 1 hour, then deleted automatically. Requests are kept as long as needed to handle your request and follow up on the service. You can ask for them to be deleted at any time.
Anti-bot protection on the form (Cloudflare Turnstile)
To block automated submissions (spam), the request form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, a service of Cloudflare, Inc. (United States). On the form pages only, Cloudflare processes technical data, such as your IP address and signals from your browser and device, to tell people from bots. The check usually happens on its own; a checkbox may appear if needed.
This check is necessary for the security of the form. It is not used for advertising or statistics, which is why it does not go through the cookie banner. This data may be processed outside Québec. To learn more, see Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Audience statistics (Google Analytics 4)
If you click “Accept”, we use Google Analytics 4 to produce anonymous audience statistics, such as the number of visits and the most viewed pages. If you decline or make no choice, Google Analytics is not loaded at all and no data is sent to Google.
After you accept, Google Analytics collects:
- the pages you view and how long you stay;
- your approximate location (city or region), derived from your IP address. Google truncates the IP address and does not store it;
- your device type, browser, operating system and language;
- the site or link that brought you here (referrer);
- your interactions with the site, such as link clicks, scrolling and submitting the form (not its content).
A random identifier is stored in your browser (_ga cookies) to tell visits apart. We do not receive your name, your full IP address or the content of the form. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off, and the data is not used for advertising.
The provider is Google LLC (United States). Your data may be processed and stored outside Québec, including in the United States. In Google Analytics, detailed data (events and users) is kept for at most 2 months and then deleted automatically; only aggregate reports remain.
Cookies and browser storage
| Name | What it does | Duration |
|---|---|---|
ao_consent (local storage or cookie) | Remembers your choice (Accept or Decline) so we don’t ask on every page. | Up to 12 months; then the banner comes back |
_ga, _ga_BNV9Z80BTT | Google Analytics 4, only if you accept. | Up to 12 months; deleted if you withdraw consent |
pll_language | Remembers the site language (French or English). | 12 months |
The home pages (French and English) and the About page have an embedded YouTube video in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). YouTube (Google) may collect data only if you play the video.
Withdrawing your consent
Click “Cookie settings” at the bottom of any page, then “Decline”. Statistics are turned off right away and the _ga cookies are deleted from your browser. You can also clear cookies and site data in your browser settings.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Hostinger. As with any website, the host’s servers process technical data (IP address, browser, pages requested) to show the site and protect it. These servers may be located outside Québec.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, and withdraw your consent at any time. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can file a complaint with the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
